My Journey to Interpreting
Born in Iraq, and in 1978, my family moved to Libya, North Africa, which remained peaceful until the events of 2011.
The Libyan leadership (1969-2011) welcomed all Arabs in Libya.
I grew up listening and mixing with people from the rich and varied wealth of accents and sounds of Arabic dialects, music and culture. My friends were Libyan, Syrian, Palestinian, Jordanian, Iraqi, Sudanese, Egyptian, Kuwaiti and others. Knowing and understanding each dialect captured my interest in language
and its intricate connotations and nuances.
After the fall of Iraq, Libya and Syria, listening to the news became a meaningless task. I wanted to contribute positively instead.
After my first interpreting assignment with Social Services, I knew I found work that is meaningful and positive. I am happy to use my skills and life experience to help others.
